/glen-GOYN/
Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1833
Glengoyne is a Highland single malt distillery located in Dumgoyne, a small village nestled in the Campsie Fells, just a 30-minute drive north of Glasgow. Founded in 1833 by local farmer George Connell under the name Burnfoot, the distillery later took on the evocative name Glengoyne, meaning 'Glen of the Wild Geese'. It holds the distinction of being the most southerly distillery in the Scottish Highlands — so close to the Highland Line that its warehouses actually sit in the Lowlands. Glengoyne is celebrated for its unhurried approach to whisky-making, most notably its use of slow distillation and unpeated, air-dried malt. This commitment to tradition results in single malts that are rich, fruity, and approachable, with a characteristic sweetness and remarkable depth. The distillery's portfolio spans a broad range of age statements, offering expressions that appeal to both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts alike. In 2003, Ian Macleod Distillers acquired Glengoyne, joining it with sister distilleries Tamdhu and others under their family of brands. Under this ownership, the brand has flourished significantly, with sales volumes increasing by 250% in the years following the acquisition, cementing Glengoyne's reputation as one of Scotland's most cherished Highland single malts.
