Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1825
Glencadam Distillery was founded in 1825 in Brechin, in the Eastern Highlands of Scotland, just two years after the Excise Act of 1823 legalised whisky production in the country. Though production officially began in 1827, the distillery has been crafting single malt Scotch whisky for nearly two centuries, making it one of the more storied distilleries in the Highland region. Over its long history, Glencadam has changed hands multiple times, including an acquisition by Gilmour Thomson and Co. in 1891. Today, it is owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, a family business led by founder Terry Hillman, which also owns Tomintoul Distillery on Speyside. Glencadam is known for handcrafting elegant and refined single malt Scotch whiskies that are steeped in tradition. The distillery's core range includes expressions matured in ex-Bourbon casks, such as the well-regarded 10 Year Old, which showcases the distillery's light and delicate house style. In recent years, Glencadam has also expanded its portfolio with a cask finish collection, offering a variety of additional expressions that highlight the versatility of its spirit. The distillery recently opened its first visitor centre, welcoming whisky enthusiasts to experience its nearly 200 years of heritage firsthand. Despite its relatively low profile on the international stage, Glencadam has earned a loyal following among fans of understated, quality-driven Highland single malts.
