Glen Ord Distillery was founded in 1838 by Thomas MacKenzie on Clan MacKenzie land at Muir of Ord, near Inverness, in Scotland's Highland region. Situated on the Black Isle, it is the only remaining single malt distillery in this historic area. The distillery draws its pure water from mountain lochs and has long been associated with the rich barley-growing tradition of the surrounding landscape. Over the years, Glen Ord changed hands multiple times before becoming part of Diageo's extensive portfolio. Today, Glen Ord is one of three distilleries — alongside Glendullan and Dufftown — that form the foundation of Diageo's globally celebrated Singleton brand. The Singleton range from Glen Ord is particularly celebrated for its exceptionally smooth texture and profound flavours, making it a benchmark for approachable yet complex single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery has grown considerably in scale and is regarded as one of the larger single malt operations in the north Highlands. Glen Ord's whisky's are especially popular across Asian markets, where The Singleton has earned a strong and loyal following. As the home of The Singleton of Glen Ord, the distillery continues to uphold its reputation for producing rich, rounded, and consistently high-quality single malts that appeal to both newcomers and seasoned whisky enthusiasts alike.
