Glen Garioch
/glen-GEER-ee/
Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1797
Glen Garioch (pronounced 'Geery' in the ancient Doric dialect still spoken in the region) is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries still in production, founded in 1797 by John Manson in the Aberdeenshire village of Oldmeldrum. Situated in the Eastern Highlands, it also holds the distinction of being Scotland's most easterly distillery. During its first 140 years, the distillery changed ownership no less than several times, yet its commitment to traditional Highland whisky-making methods has remained a constant thread throughout its over 225-year legacy. Glen Garioch is known for producing Highland single malt Scotch whisky that reflects the character of its northeastern Scottish home. The portfolio is notably diverse, encompassing aged expressions as well as a range of vintage releases, typically offered at robust cask strength. This variety showcases the distillery's versatility while remaining true to its roots in traditional craftsmanship. Each bottle carries the weight of centuries of accumulated knowledge and experience. With a heritage stretching back to the late eighteenth century, Glen Garioch has earned a respected place among whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike. Older vintages, such as those from 1968 and 1971, are particularly sought after, having been praised by some of the world's most respected whisky critics and bottled by renowned independent bottlers.
