/ed-ra-DOUR/
Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1825
Edradour Distillery, nestled in the rolling hills near Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands, is widely celebrated as the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland. Founded in 1825 as a cooperative venture among local farmers, it began life as a farm distillery producing whisky for local trade and blending. Its origins reflect the illicit distilling traditions of the Highlands, and the distillery has retained much of its original character ever since. Beautifully set among birch trees and barley fields, Edradour remains one of Scotland's most visited distilleries. Its tiny scale means production is intentionally limited, resulting in whisky's of exceptional character and craftsmanship. The core range showcases rich, creamy Highland single malts, while owner Andrew Symington — who acquired the distillery in 2002 — expanded the portfolio significantly. In 2003, he introduced Ballechin, a heavily peated expression distilled at Edradour, adding a bold and smoky counterpart to the traditional unpeated style. Edradour's commitment to staying small by choice and traditional by principle has earned it a loyal following among whisky enthusiasts worldwide. Its picturesque setting and hands-on production methods make it as much a destination as a distillery, attracting visitors eager to experience one of Scotland's most distinctive and historic drams.
