Dalwhinnie

Dalwhinnie Distillery is located in the Highland village of Dalwhinnie, nestled in one of the coldest inhabited regions of Scotland. Founded in 1897 by John Grant, George Sellar, and Alexander Mackenzie, it was originally named the Strathspey Distillery before being renamed Dalwhinnie in 1898. Today, the distillery is owned by Diageo and holds a distinguished place in Scotch whisky history. Dalwhinnie was selected as one of Diageo's original six Classic Malts — a prestigious series that also included Cragganmore, Glenkinchie, Lagavulin, Oban, and Talisker. This recognition underlines Dalwhinnie's reputation as a benchmark Highland single malt. The distillery's harsh, cold climate plays a key role in shaping its characteristically smooth and gentle style. Between 2002 and 2008, Dalwhinnie held the distinction of being the highest working distillery in Scotland, until Braeval reopened in July 2008. Among its most celebrated expressions is the Distillers Edition, which undergoes a second maturation in Oloroso sherry casks, adding layers of richness and complexity to its signature character. Dalwhinnie continues to be regarded as one of Scotland's most iconic and approachable Highland malts.
