The Dalmore
/dal-MORE/
Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1839
The Dalmore is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, situated in the small town of Alness, approximately 35 minutes north of Inverness. In 1867, Matheson transferred the leasing rights to the Mackenzie family, who would go on to shape the distillery's identity for generations. As one of the first distilleries to export fine Scotch whisky, The Dalmore holds a distinguished place in the history of Scotch whisky production. The Dalmore is celebrated for its richly sherried, complex Highland style, with expressions that often feature deep fruit, chocolate, and spice notes developed through meticulous cask maturation. The distillery is particularly known for its use of premium casks, including ex-bourbon barrels and rare Bordeaux wine casks, lending its whisky's exceptional depth and refinement. The portfolio spans a wide range of expressions, from accessible core releases to highly collectible limited editions. The Dalmore has built a formidable reputation among collectors worldwide. One remarkable milestone came when a bottle of The Dalmore 62 Year Old sold at auction for nearly £26,000, setting a world record at the time for a single bottle of whisky. More recently, the distillery has continued to push creative boundaries with its travel-retail-exclusive Portfolio Series, collaborating with visual artists to celebrate its rare Bordeaux cask expressions.
