Convalmore Distillery is one of Dufftown's famed seven stills, situated near the River Fiddich in the heart of Speyside. Founded in 1893 by the Convalmore-Glenlivet Distillery Co. Ltd, with construction completed in 1894, it was among the last distilleries to be built during the great Victorian whisky boom. The distillery changed hands several times in its early years, passing to W&P Lowrie & Co. Ltd before eventually coming under the ownership of William Grant & Sons. Convalmore produced whisky primarily for blending purposes, and its spirit was rarely seen as an official single malt during its operational years. The distillery fell silent in 1985, and its equipment has since been removed, leaving the buildings in a state of quiet decay. William Grant & Sons has released selected bottlings under the Convalmore name, offering whisky enthusiasts a rare chance to taste this lost Speyside distillery's character. As a ghost distillery, Convalmore holds a special fascination for collectors and connoisseurs. Bottles are almost exclusively sourced from independent bottlers such as Dun Bheagan, making each release a genuine piece of Speyside history. With stocks diminishing year by year, Convalmore whiskies are increasingly sought after.
