Cardhu

Cardhu Distillery is one of the oldest and most historically significant distilleries in the Speyside region of Scotland. Founded in 1824, it holds the distinction of being the first distillery in Speyside to obtain a legal licence. Its story is inseparably linked to two remarkable women: Helen Cumming, who co-founded the distillery, and Elizabeth Cumming, who later managed and transformed it into a celebrated single malt producer. Operating initially under the name Cardow Distillery, the name was later changed to Cardhu. Cardhu is celebrated for its elegant, gentle, and smooth character — a style that has made it one of Speyside's most beloved expressions. The distillery plays a pivotal role in the whisky world beyond its own bottlings: in 1893, Cardhu became the first distillery acquired by the Walker family, securing it as a key component in the iconic Johnnie Walker blends. To this day, Cardhu is widely regarded as the heart of Johnnie Walker. With a heritage spanning 200 years, Cardhu continues to welcome whisky enthusiasts through its doors, sharing a story shaped by pioneering women, a rich Speyside tradition, and a lasting legacy in both single malt and blended Scotch whisky.
