Brora

Brora Distillery traces its origins to 1819, when it was established as Clynelish Distillery by the Marquis of Stafford, who later became the Duke of Sutherland. Located in the rugged Highlands of northern Scotland, the distillery operated for well over a century before a dramatic chapter in its story unfolded. In 1983, the stillhouse doors were locked and the distillery fell silent, leaving behind a legacy that would only grow more legendary with time. After almost 40 years of inactivity, Brora has been resurrected, returning to life and once again producing single malt Scotch whisky. Brora is celebrated for its distinctly 'old Highland style' — a character defined by a mild but unmistakable level of peat smoke, setting it apart from the heavily peated expressions of Islay or the lighter Speyside profile. The whisky produced during its original operational years has become extraordinarily sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike, with aged releases commanding significant attention at auction. The revived distillery aims to honour and faithfully recreate this classic Highland character. With its rich heritage, critical acclaim, and luxury positioning, Brora is widely regarded as one of the most compelling collector's whiskies in the world. Forbes has highlighted it as a top collector's pick, and its combination of historical rarity and renewed production makes it a uniquely prestigious name in Scotch whisky.
