Braeval Distillery, located at the southern end of Speyside in Scotland, was built in 1973 by Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Seagram. Originally known as Braes of Glenlivet, the distillery was renamed Braeval in the mid-1990s to avoid confusion with its more famous neighbour, The Glenlivet. The renaming allowed The Glenlivet to stand as a singular identity within the region, while Braeval carved out its own distinct place in Speyside's whisky landscape. The distillery is home to six stills — two large wash stills and four smaller spirit stills — all featuring thin necks and upward sloping lyne arms, a configuration that contributes to a lighter, more delicate spirit character. With a production capacity of around 4.2 million litres per annum, Braeval operates as one of the more substantial distilleries in the region. The whisky produced here is predominantly used in Chivas Brothers' blends, though independent bottlings under both the Braeval and Braes of Glenlivet names have earned the distillery a dedicated following among single malt enthusiasts.
