Bonnington Distillery is a Lowland single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Leith, Edinburgh, built by Halewood International as part of an ambitious plan to revive the historic Crabbie whisky legacy. The distillery stands just a few hundred yards from the original site associated with John Crabbie & Co., one of Scotland's most enduring whisky brands, blending respect for tradition with a modern, innovative approach. During construction of the new distillery, an experimental, smaller distillery was set up in Granton to keep production moving forward. Bonnington Distillery produces Lowland single malt whisky that reflects both its Edinburgh heritage and Halewood's willingness to experiment. The inaugural release — a single malt aged in a single Ruby Port cask — signalled the distillery's intention to explore creative cask finishes and bold expressions. The portfolio, released under the Crabbie Whisky name, is described as fusing tradition and innovation, with a dynamic and contemporary identity rooted in Leith's rich distilling history. The Bonnington Bond, a Victorian warehouse adjacent to the distillery, adds further historical depth to the brand's story, serving as a reminder of the area's long-standing connection to the Scotch whisky trade. Bonnington represents an exciting chapter in the ongoing renaissance of Edinburgh as a whisky-producing city.
