Founded in 2016 by the Cooney family, Boann Distillery is located in Drogheda in the heart of the Boyne Valley, Ireland. Named after the goddess Boann, who according to Irish mythology created the River Boyne, the distillery is steeped in local heritage and legend. The Cooney family brings a long history in the Irish drinks industry to the project, and Boann holds the distinction of being the first distillery to return to Irish whiskey production in the Boyne Valley region. Boann specialises in Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, a style that is deeply rooted in Irish distilling tradition. The distillery has attracted attention for its innovative approach to cask finishing, offering expressions finished in Marsala, Madeira, and Pedro Ximénez casks. These whisky's demonstrate the Cooney family's commitment to craftsmanship and their ambition to celebrate Ireland's rich distilling heritage while pushing creative boundaries. Boann Distillery has already earned recognition on the international stage, having won the Ireland New Make category at the World Whiskies Awards. Their Single Pot Still whisky's are now available in the United States, distributed across 10 states in partnership with Prestige Beverage Group, underscoring the growing global reputation of this ambitious family-run distillery.
