Black Bottle is a blended Scotch whisky with a proud heritage rooted in late 19th century Aberdeen. The brand was founded in 1879 by Gordon Graham & Co., whose distinctive black bottle design was inspired by traditional black German glass, echoing the shape of a pot still. In 1914 the brand underwent changes, and over the decades it passed through several hands, including Edrington, before being acquired in 1999 by Burn Stewart Distillers. In 2013 Black Bottle was integrated into the Distell Group's portfolio. Black Bottle is renowned for its strong Islay influence, which gives the blend a distinctive smoky and peaty character that sets it apart from many other Scotch blends. While the recipe has evolved over time, the Islay spirit at its heart has remained central to its identity. Beyond its core expression, Black Bottle has embraced innovation through its experimental Alchemy Series, which includes bold offerings such as a whisky aged in Andean oak, demonstrating the brand's willingness to push boundaries while respecting its blending heritage. With its combination of rich history, recognisable bottle design, and a flavour profile driven by Islay malts, Black Bottle has carved out a loyal following among whisky enthusiasts who appreciate both tradition and creativity in their glass.
