Barton

Barton Brands is an American distilled spirits company with deep roots in the post-Prohibition era. Founded in 1933 by Chicago businessmen Oscar Getz and Lester Abelson, the company was established shortly after the repeal of Prohibition and went on to become a significant name in American whiskey production. The company's distillery, Barton 1792 Distillery, was originally established in 1879 and is located in Bardstown, Kentucky, making it the oldest fully-operating distillery in Bardstown, sitting on 196 acres of historic grounds. Over the decades, Barton Brands passed through several owners, including Constellation Brands, before its portfolio was eventually acquired by Sazerac. Barton is best known for producing a range of American bourbons and spirits. Among its most recognized brands are 1792 Bourbon — named for the year Kentucky became a state — Kentucky Tavern, and Very Old Barton. The 1792 portfolio in particular has grown into a diverse lineup, including expressions such as Small Batch, and more recently a Cognac Cask Finish. The distillery's style reflects classic Kentucky bourbon craftsmanship, rooted in tradition while continuing to innovate with new finishes and expressions. The legacy of founder Oscar Getz lives on through the Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History, a testament to the cultural impact Barton Brands has had on American whiskey history. Today, Barton 1792 Distillery operates as part of the expansive Sazerac portfolio, which includes over 500 brands worldwide.
