Ballina Irish Whiskey — formerly known as Connacht Whiskey — takes its name from the town of Ballina in County Mayo, on the west coast of Ireland. The distillery was founded by Irish-American investors, with construction of its €10 million facility completed in 2015 and whiskey production beginning in 2016. Among its driving forces is Rob Cassell, who also founded New Liberty Distillery in Philadelphia, bringing a transatlantic vision to this independent Irish project. In 2024, the distillery was acquired by Terroir Distillers, marking a new chapter in its history. Situated on the banks of the River Moy, Ballina Distillery produces single pot still and single malt whiskeys rooted in traditional Irish craftsmanship. The brand recently rebranded from the Connacht label to Ballina Irish Whiskey, reflecting a deeper connection to its home town and region. Its portfolio includes limited-edition single malts that highlight the distillery's commitment to quality and provenance. With a focus on small-batch production and local character, Ballina represents the modern wave of craft Irish whiskey making that has emerged in recent decades.
