The Ardmore distillery was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher, son of William Teacher of the renowned Wm. Teacher & Sons blending house. Built in the Scottish Highlands near Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire, the distillery was purpose-built from the outset to provide high-quality malt whisky for blending. Over the decades it expanded significantly, growing from two stills to eight by 1974. Today, The Ardmore is owned by Beam Suntory, though it has retained much of its traditional character throughout its long history. What sets The Ardmore apart is its distinction as the only traditionally peated Highland single malt Scotch whisky. While peat is commonly associated with Islay, The Ardmore has proudly maintained this unconventional Highland tradition since its founding. The whisky's style is defined by a light, silky peat smoke balanced with creamy vanilla, sweet honey and spice — a profile that is both approachable and characterful. The flagship expression, The Ardmore Legacy, embodies this signature style and serves as an excellent introduction to the range. Deep-rooted in the land, people and wildlife of its Highland home, The Ardmore carries a strong sense of place in every bottle. Its commitment to traditional peated production in a region better known for unpeated styles gives it a genuinely unique position within the world of Scotch whisky.
