Allt A Bhainne

Allt-a-Bhainne (pronounced 'Altavane') is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery founded in 1975 by Seagram Distillers. Built as a modern, computerised facility in Moray, it was purpose-built to supply malt whisky for blending, most notably for Chivas Brothers blends. In 2001, Pernod Ricard acquired the distillery as part of its takeover of Chivas Brothers, and it remains part of the Pernod Ricard portfolio to this day. Allt-a-Bhainne is primarily known as a blending component rather than a standalone single malt, playing a key role in well-known blends such as Chivas Regal and 100 Pipers — the latter a brand originally created by Seagram's in 1966. What sets this distillery apart is its distinctive combination of classic Speyside character with smoky, peated flavours, making it a versatile and valued ingredient in the blender's toolkit. The distillery also contributes to the Royal Salute blend, which incorporates malts from Allt-a-Bhainne, Braeval, Longmorn, Strathisla, and Tormore. While Allt-a-Bhainne operates somewhat under the radar compared to more famous Speyside names, independent bottlings have allowed whisky enthusiasts to explore its character as a single malt, revealing a spirit with genuine depth and complexity.
