Ailsa Bay

Ailsa Bay is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the Lowlands of Scotland, built by William Grant & Sons and established in 2007. The first spirit flowed on 24th September of that year, marking the company's first foray into peated whisky production. Known primarily for their light, floral Speyside-style whiskies such as Glenfiddich and The Balvenie, William Grant & Sons created Ailsa Bay as a deliberate departure from their established house style, seeking to expand their portfolio with a smoky, peated expression. After eight years of production, Ailsa Bay released its first official single malt bottling in February 2016 — a no-age-statement, heavily peated whisky. While the majority of spirit produced at the distillery is used for blending within the William Grant & Sons portfolio, the single malt releases showcase Ailsa Bay's distinctive character: a carefully crafted balance between bold, smoky peat and sweet, approachable notes. Master Blender Brian Kinsman has overseen the development of the distillery's spirit from its earliest days, shaping its unique identity within the Lowland whisky landscape.
