Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1896
Aberfeldy Distillery is a Highland Scotch whisky distillery situated in the town of Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland. It was founded in 1896 by brothers Tommy Dewar and John Alexander Dewar of John Dewar & Sons, making it the first and only distillery ever built by the Dewar family. The location was carefully chosen for its proximity to the Pitilie Burn and its convenient rail links, which supported Dewar's rapidly expanding blended whisky business. In 1925, ownership passed to the Distillers Company Ltd when it merged with John Dewar & Sons, and the distillery is today owned by Bacardi. For most of its history, Aberfeldy's spirit served primarily as the heart of Dewar's blended Scotch whisky. It was only from 1999 onwards that the distillery began bottling its own single malt expressions. The range is characterised by a rich, honeyed Highland style with spicy and herbal notes, often matured in a combination of cask types to add depth and complexity. The portfolio includes age-statement expressions that highlight the distillery's signature character. Aberfeldy Distillery has also become a showcase for history and sustainability under Bacardi's ownership, welcoming visitors to its heritage centre in Perthshire. The distillery continues to grow its reputation as a quality Highland single malt producer, earning recognition from whisky enthusiasts and critics around the world.
